Can I pursue an MBA in finance if I had the science stream in class 12th?

Even if you had a science background in class 12th, you can proceed with MBA (Finance). However, MBA programs normally require a bachelor’s degree in any discipline and many are structured to admit students from diverse academic backgrounds. These are the steps and considerations one may take when Pursuing an MBA in Finance after having a Science Background in Class 12th:

1. Complete a Bachelor’s Degree:

You will have to complete your graduate degree from a recognized university. The specific subject of your undergraduate degree is usually open-ended but if you choose commerce, business, economics or engineering it will be advantageous. But science is also acceptable.

2. Gain Work Experience (Optional but Beneficial):

Many MBA programs prefer or require candidates with some work experience, especially the top-tier ones. This can include finance-related occupation such as business among others.

3. Prepare for Entrance Exams:

Most MBA programs will require that you sit for an entrance examination.

For instance:

• GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test); Accepted by most of the business schools around the world.

• GRE (Graduate Record Examination); Can be used instead of GMAT in some of the business schools

• CAT (Common Admission Test); Is required by many MBA programs based in India

4. Apply for MBA Programs:

Investigate and apply to MBA programs offering a finance concentration. Every program will have specific admission requirements including academic records, standardized test scores, references, resume and an application essay.

5. Prepare your Interviews:

Interviews may be required in case you are selected. Prepare to discuss your educational background, employment history as well as why you are pursuing an MBA degree with specialization in Finance.

6. Foundation Courses (if needed):

Should this be the case, some programs may offer or require you to take foundation courses in finance or business if you studied something different before.

7. Skills and Knowledge:

On the other hand, your scientific background gives you strong analytical skills and mathematical abilities, but you may need to acquaint yourself with some basics in finance as well as business. You may want to consider taking introductory courses in accounting, economics or finance if you have not already.

8. MBA Curriculum:

An MBA in Finance touches on financial management, investment analysis, corporate finance, financial markets and risk management among other related topics. Therefore it is important that you are well prepared and interested in these areas.

Conclusion:

However having a science stream background in class 12th does not mean that one cannot go for an MBA in Finance. Students can go for and complete an MBA in Finance if they meet the right qualifications including a good undergraduate degree, exam preparation and maybe some work experience.
